The landscape of global garment trade has reached a historic turning point in 2025. Vietnam has decisively overtaken China in the United States’ jackets and blazers import market, marking a significant structural shift in sourcing patterns that has been brewing for the last four years. While China held a commanding lead as recently as 2022, Vietnam’s aggressive growth trajectory has allowed it to seize the top spot, widening the gap with its long-time rival.

According to the latest data from sourcing intelligence tool TexPro, total US imports of jackets and blazers stood at $1,399.198 million in 2025. This figure reflects a broader moderation in the market compared to the $1,502.169 million recorded in 2024. However, even as the overall market contracted, Vietnam strengthened its dominance. Its exports rose to $288.172 million in 2025, while China’s shipments witnessed a sharp decline, falling to $200.923 million.

This transition has been a gradual but relentless climb. In 2022, China led the sector with $355.035 million in exports to the US, comfortably ahead of Vietnam’s $311.739 million. The gap began to close in 2023, and by 2024, Vietnam had nearly caught up. The true turning point arrived in 2025, when Vietnam surged ahead just as China’s exports began to drop significantly. Analysts suggest this is a clear result of supply chain realignment, with US buyers diversifying away from China toward more competitive and politically stable Asian manufacturing hubs.

Vietnam’s consistent growth underscores its strengthening position in value-added apparel segments. Supported by manufacturing expertise and strong alignment with international buyers, Vietnam has become the primary beneficiary of changing cost dynamics. While other suppliers like India and Bangladesh remain active, they trail far behind the top two. India’s exports grew modestly to $64.715 million in 2025, while Turkiye saw a decline to $26.192 million over the same period.

Ultimately, the jackets and blazers segment serves as a prime example of how the global apparel landscape is being reshaped. Vietnam’s rise to the top isn't just a temporary trend; it is a testament to the country’s growing role as a cornerstone of the global fashion supply chain. As US retailers continue to prioritize resilience and cost-efficiency, Vietnam is perfectly positioned to maintain its new crown as the leader of the American closet.
