Uzbekistan's Textile Exports Surge in First Quarter, Driving Economic Growth

Uzbekistan's textile industry has shown remarkable resilience and growth, as evidenced by the country's robust textile exports in the first quarter of this year. According to data released by the country's statistical agency, Uzbekistan exported textile products totaling $775.7 million during this period, marking a substantial increase of $247.4 million, or 14.7 percent year-on-year (YoY).
Textiles have emerged as a cornerstone of Uzbekistan's export portfolio, contributing significantly to the country's economic growth. In the first quarter, textiles accounted for 12.2 percent of the total exports, representing a notable uptick of 0.9 percent compared to the previous year.
The surge in textile exports was underpinned by strong performance across various segments of the industry. Finished textile products and yarn constituted the lion's share of Uzbekistan's textile exports, comprising 37.7 percent and 46.8 percent, respectively. This diversification within the textile sector underscores the country's multifaceted approach to meeting global demand and maximizing export potential.
Domestic media reports provide further insights into the composition of Uzbekistan's textile exports. Finished textile products, including a range of apparel and home textiles, commanded a substantial portion of the export revenue, amounting to $292.5 million. Meanwhile, yarn exports accounted for $363.4 million, reflecting the country's competitive edge in textile manufacturing and yarn production.
Additionally, Uzbekistan's textile exports encompassed a variety of other products, including knitted fabrics, fabrics, and hosiery. Knitted fabrics, valued at $69 million, and fabrics, totaling $39.3 million, contributed significantly to the overall export earnings, highlighting the breadth of Uzbekistan's textile offerings. Hosiery exports, amounting to $11.5 million, further diversified the country's export portfolio, catering to niche market segments.
