Vietnam’s textile and garment sector has once again demonstrated its solid performance in international trade by the middle of 2026. Based on the latest report from the Customs IT and Statistics Department under the Ministry of Finance, total shipments of textile and apparel products—excluding yarn and fiber categories—successfully reached 22.863 billion dollars from January through July 2026. This achievement reflects a slight upward trend of 1.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Not only did apparel products show positive momentum, but the national yarn export sector also recorded quite impressive performance jumps. In terms of value, yarn shipments surged by 11.1 percent year-on-year to 2.723 billion dollars, while shipment volume grew by 3.0 percent to reach a total of 1,127,112 tonnes. Monthly dynamics further reinforced this recovery trend, as in July 2026 alone, textile and garment exports climbed 7.7 percent month-on-month to 3.982 billion dollars, followed by a 5.5 percent increase in yarn exports valued at 430.229 million dollars.

In line with the expansion of overseas sales, import activities for raw materials supporting domestic industries also underwent proportional adjustments. Throughout the first seven months of 2026, Vietnam’s cotton imports rose by volume by 6.3 percent to 1,160,998 tonnes, valued at 1.878 billion dollars. Foreign procurement of yarn raw materials was also pushed up by 12.4 percent in value to reach 1.834 billion dollars. Meanwhile, imported fabric supplies, which are primarily absorbed from partner nations such as China, South Korea, and Taiwan, touched 8.945 billion dollars, or a 2.2 percent increase from the previous year.

The positive records in the first half of 2026 serve as a breath of fresh air for industry players, considering that back in 2025, Vietnam's accumulated exports of textiles, garments, and yarn stood at 43.955 billion dollars, falling short of the ambitious initial target range of 47 to 48 billion dollars. Nevertheless, consistent growth trends since 2024—when apparel exports jumped 11.2 percent to the 37.036 billion dollar level—continue to foster market optimism. The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) has even set a high target for total combined exports across textile, garment, and yarn categories to break the 50 billion dollar mark throughout 2026.
