In a bid to rejuvenate the jute sector and bolster its associated industries, Bangladesh is set to establish a dedicated Jute Council, announced Textiles and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak during the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA).

The home textile industry, once a cornerstone of global exports, experienced a downturn for over a year. However, there are promising signs of revival, with three South Asian countries – India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh – emerging as contenders for dominance in this resurgent market.

A recent visit by a delegation from the Chinese Council for Textiles and Readymade Garments to Cairo has sparked discussions about the establishment of an integrated textile city in Egypt. The delegation expressed keen interest in the project during a meeting with Hossam Heiba, the chief executive officer of Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).

The latest Retail Business Survey conducted by the Retailers Association of India (RAI) reveals a promising 8 percent increase in Indian retail sales in March 2024 compared to the same month last year. This surge in sales signals a robust recovery in the retail sector, particularly driven by strong discretionary spending on apparels and sporting goods.
